Team Kelsey has already been busy in 2011 scheduling upcoming fundraisers, finding business sponsors, and collecting donations for our walk. The March For Babies this year is on April 30th and we are so excited to once again be a part of it.
In two weeks we are going to purchase our 2011 team shirts and we've decided to go with a different color this year! We LOVE the brown and pink shirts, but we thought we'd switch up our look every year to keep everyone excited about our team. We can't wait to share them with everyone!
If you would like to donate to our team you can do so here.
Thank you and keep checking back for more updates!

March of Dimes Partners with Huggies Every Little Bottom
March of Dimes is proud to partner with the Huggies® Every Little Bottom program to raise awareness about diaper need and address the issue in our communities across the U.S.
A recent study reveals that one in three American moms are in diaper need, struggling to provide diapers for their babies. These mothers have had to cut back on other basics including food, utilities like heat or electricity, child care and even medical care in order to provide diapers. The study also revealed that nearly one in five moms in diaper need have extended the amount of time they leave their babies in wet or soiled disposable diapers. Babies kept in wet, dirty diapers for extended periods of time may experience physical and emotional suffering.
To kick off the campaign, Huggies will donate up to 20 million diapers in the United States in the next eight months. Huggies will begin the donations with two million diapers given to ten local diaper banks across the country.
Find out more and learn how you can donate to diaper banks in your area. Visit EveryLittleBottom.
Help us spread the word about diaper need and ensure all babies get the healthiest start possible.

Mount Vernon River Days
River Days was a great experience. We started out Thursday night out at Meemaw's house making the fruit salad, cutting the angel food cake, and wrapping fudge. We had several very generous friends and family members donate fudge to our team. We are so very blessed to have the support that we have! We ended up with 7 1/2 buckets of fruit salad (104 6-ounce servings) and around 440 bundles of fudge!!
Friday we opened our booth at 9:00 a.m. and basically sat in the rain until around 4:00 p.m. From 5:00 p.m. until we closed around 9:00 p.m. the weather was great and the crowd seemed to just keep growing. We sold homemade (Meemaw's) fruit salad, homemade fudge, and soft drinks and we did well considering we were only able to sell food for about four hours.
Saturday we were open from 9:30 a.m. until about 9:00 p.m. It was a long day, but we had so much fun! The crowd was great - especially around dinner time, and for only selling dessert-type foods there were times on Saturday that we were waiting on people non-stop with one person getting drinks, one getting fudge, one pouring fruit salad, and one taking money. We were very blessed to have such a great turn-out at our booth! A family member went home and came back with no-bake cookies and they sold out within TEN minutes! She left and came back with a few more batches and they sold too! For Sunday, we had two family members make no-bakes and were surprised when another showed up with chocolate chip cookies! All of the cookies were great sellers and we are so thankful to have such wonderful friends and family helping us out.
The people in the booth beside us were absolutely wonderful! They are from Old North United Methodist Church in Evansville and have THE best catfish sandwich around! They will be at the Fall Festival so be sure to visit their booth and get a catfish sandwich, apple cider, or an apple cider slushy...they are incredible! Tell them Team Kelsey from River Days sent you! =)
Sunday there was a car show and we were at our booth from around 9:00 a.m. until we took everything down around 3:00 p.m. Overall it was a very fun and exciting weekend. The best parts were meeting new people, sharing Kelsey's story, educating people about the March of Dimes and prematurity, and experiencing such a fun weekend with family and close friends. We hope to be able to participate again next year!
We have to thank everyone who helped us out by donating either your time, your talents, or both. We would not have been as successful as we were without the donations of fudge, cookies, money, or time. We also want to thank:

An Amazing Day
Hello!
WOW! We had an amazing day! We had our garage sale and met so many wonderful people. People were looking for great deals, but were so charitable in return. We were able to raise a generous amount of money for the March of Dimes through not only the purchases, but also from donations in our donation bucket. How nice and generous people are! Sharing Kelsey's story and the blessings we have as a family is what makes days like today so wonderful.
After the garage sale hours were over we were still left with a lot of stuff. We learned that First United Methodist Church takes boxed items to Appalachia and we knew exactly what we had to do. We quickly got to work boxing up all of the items and taping the boxes shut (requirements for them to be stored and taken). It was very rewarding knowing that so many people would greatly benefit from the leftover clothes, shoes, toys, and household items that we had.
In the end, it is exciting to realize just how many people we helped out today. From the people shopping at the garage sale, to the donations for the March of Dimes, to the donated items going to Appalachia...it has been a truly amazing day! After all, these are the reasons why Team Kelsey was created. To help others after so many people helped Kelsey and our entire family during the difficult NICU days. To help out those who need it the most because we all find ourselves there at some point and it's always nice to have someone (or maybe even an entire team) to be there when you need it.
Thank you to Agape Family Ministries for allowing us to use your church for our garage sale.
Thank you to First United Methodist Church for helping us send items to Appalachia.
Thank you to every person who stopped by our garage sale today.
Thank you to those of you who donated to the March of Dimes.
Next up for Team Kelsey...MOUNT VERNON RIVER DAYS!!! We hope to see you there!

NICU series
I just received an email from the March of Dimes explaining a new television series on the Discovery Health Channel. According to the email: "Farmers Insurance has partnered with Discovery Health and the March of Dimes on NICU, a world premiere television series that follows the experiences of babies fighting for their lives in a newborn intensive care unit. Teams of doctors and nurses tend to these babies with speed and expertise, while families are thrust into an unfamiliar world where their hopes and dreams change dramatically."
NICU premieres today, July 15, at 10 PM (ET/PT) on Discovery Health. Click here to learn more about the series, which follows real families as they experience the roller coaster of emotions that come with having a baby born too soon or with other complications. During the broadcast, viewers can use their mobile devices to text the word "hero" to 20222 to donate $5 to the March of Dimes.

Our own place!
Hello!
We have a March for Babies page, a facebook page, and now we have our very own blog! Not all team members are on facebook, but now everyone on the team will be able to check out what we're doing as a team. Plus, all of our sponsors, donors, friends, and family can join us on here and keep up with all of the great things we are doing throughout the year.
2010 has already been an exciting year for Team Kelsey! In April we walked in our third March for Babies walk and had a really great time. It is our first year to have business sponsors, custom-made t-shirts, several new team members, AND the first year we raised over $2,000!! We broke our team record for the amount of money raised by raising $2,025 this year! Wow!
In May, we planned several team fundraisers and are hoping to get the support of even more business sponsors and friends so our 2011 walk will be an even bigger success. Raising money for the March of Dimes is a very important cause for our family because we know first hand how important their funding and research is. All we have to do is look at Kelsey to be reminded of the importance of the March of Dimes.
Thank you for joining us here. Come back often and check out all of the fun and exciting things we will be doing as a team.
